ABOUT THE COALITION
Protecting Worker Choice and Fair Competition
Texas has long stood as a right-to-work state and national leader in economic growth and workforce opportunity.
Despite this success, growing efforts to favor union interests through government policy, procurement practices, and labor-related incentives threaten worker freedom, fair competition, and taxpayer value.
The Texas Coalition for Fairness & Open Competition was formed because organizations and advocates working independently recognized the need for a stronger and more unified voice.
Our coalition exists to champion policies that protect worker choice, promote open competition, and ensure government remains neutral in labor matters.
We believe workers should be free to choose whether to join a union and free to take their skills where they are most valued.
We believe small businesses and job creators thrive when competition is fair and government does not tilt the playing field.
And we believe taxpayers deserve public policies that deliver value, encourage innovation, and avoid government favoritism.
Texas succeeds when opportunity, skill, and freedom drive success.
our VISION
A Texas where workers are free to choose, businesses compete on a level playing field, and government does not pick winners and losers.
Our CORE PILLARS
Fair Rules
Government should establish fair, transparent rules and remain neutral—not favor one workforce model over another.
Open Markets
Competition drives innovation, stronger outcomes, and economic growth. Public policy should expand opportunity rather than restrict participation.
Worker Choice
Every Texan deserves the freedom to decide whether to join a union and where to take their skills without coercion or government pressure.
Better Texas
A stronger Texas is built when workers, businesses, and taxpayers all benefit from economic freedom, opportunity, and fair competition.
Legislative Priorities
The Texas Coalition for Fairness & Open Competition advances policies that protect worker freedom, encourage fair competition, and ensure government neutrality.
Ending Government COLLECTION OF
Union Dues
Government should not facilitate or subsidize the collection of union dues through taxpayer-funded systems or government processes.
Our Position: Government should remain neutral in labor matters and avoid policies that give unions or any workforce model special treatment.
Fair and Open
Competition
Texas law currently protects against government-mandated Project Labor Agreements at the state level, but local governments and public entities can still pursue procurement policies that favor union labor and limit competition.
The Fair and Open Competition priority seeks to ensure public projects remain open to all qualified contractors and workers by prohibiting government-mandated Project Labor Agreements and labor preferences at the local level.
Our Position: Government should not pick winners and losers through procurement policy.
Private Ballot Protection
Every worker deserves privacy and freedom when making decisions regarding union representation.
Private ballot protection ensures workers can make informed and voluntary decisions regarding unionization through a confidential election process free from coercion, intimidation, or outside pressure.
Our Position: Workers deserve the same privacy and protection in union representation decisions that Americans expect in elections.
